The Northern Illinois Huskies rolled over the Akron Zips Saturday, 37-7, behind the effort of quarterback Jordan Lynch.

Lynch finished the day 20-of-33 for 223 yards and two touchdowns passing, however, he did most of his damage on the ground, rushing 20 times for 131 and two touchdowns. He accounted for all four Northern Illinois' touchdowns.

Lynch now has more than 1,000 yards rushing on the season. According to Mike Breese of SB Nation's Northern Illinois blog, Red and Black Attack, history was made Saturday for the Huskies, but somehow, it was not centered around the junior quarterback Lynch.

The NIU Huskies started off slow in Akron, Ohio today but eventually took over the game against the Akron Zips and ran away with one on the road...NIU has won 16 of its last 17 games and with their 36th win, this senior class became the winningest in NIU history.

Northern Illinois' only loss in its past 17 games came against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2012 season opener. The Huskies currently sit at 7-1, 4-0 in the conference -- a mark that puts them in first place in the MAC. Their next contest comes on the road Saturday against the Western Michigan Broncos.

Northern Illinois carried an impressive 6-1 record into their match-up Saturday against Akron, and with a 20-7 lead at halftime, the Huskies seem content on grabbing another win to stay atop the MAC West standings.

For Northern Illinois, so much of their offense is based on the strong play of quarterback Jordan Lynch, and the first half against Akron was no exception. Lynch was responsible for both Huskies touchdowns, tossing a nine-yard pass to Martel Moore in the first quarter, before adding another with his feet in the second. Kicker Mathew Sims added a field goal in both the first and second quarters to give the Huskies six more points.

As for the Zips, after early struggles, they were able to put up seven points on the board late in the second quarter. Akron’s one touchdown came on a four-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dalton Williams to Jerrod Dillard, which capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive.

Northern Illinois has won six games in a row. They'll put that streak on the line on Saturday against the Akron Zips.

The Northern Illinois Huskies visit the Akron Zips on Saturday in a Mid-American Conference showdown. The Huskies are 6-1. After starting the season with a loss to Iowa, they have won six games in a row. Akron is looking to avoid its third consecutive one-win season. The Zips are currently 1-6.

But things haven't been completely negative for Akron. The Zips narrowly missed a comeback victory against No. 25 Ohio this past weekend. Akron lost, 34-28, but scored the final 14 points of the game, and gave Ohio a good scare.

Northern Illinois has not played a close game since their one-point victory over Army on Sept. 15. In the four weeks since then, the Huskies have outscored their opponents 165-73. Their offense ranks first the MAC, averaging 36.9 points per game.

Northern Illinois and Akron have met four times since 2004, and Akron's lone win in that series came in 2005.

Saturday's game is scheduled to kick off at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20.
