It wasn't easy, but the Chicago White Sox were able to go into Kauffman Stadium over the weekend and take two of three from the Kansas City Royals.

After winning on Friday in extra innings and losing Saturday, the White Sox rode the strong arm of Chris Sale to another victory. Sale continued his brilliant season on Sunday, throwing eight innings while scattering 10 hits and only allowing a single run. All in all, it was another sterling performance that led to the 23-year-old picking up his 11th win.

Chicago led the entire game, starting off right with Adam Dunn hitting a solo home run off of Luis Mendoza, his 28th on the campaign. In the second frame, Alex Rios scored on an Alexei Ramirez double-play ball, with that ultimately being the winning run.

The only Royals run came across in the fifth on a Chris Getz single.

The White Sox now head to Fenway Park for a crucial four game series with the Boston Red Sox, with Kevin Youkilis making his much anticipated return.

When the Boston Red Sox traded Kevin Youkilis away, most people figured the rift between he and Bobby Valentine would drift away into history. Apparently that's not yet the case.

Valentine came out on Sunday and blamed the new Chicago White Sox slugger for their icy relationship, according to ESPN.com.

"I think the comment I made early, he made a big issue out of, and I don't think he ever wanted to get over it,"Valentine said when speaking to reporters about Youkilis.

When asked if their relationship was strained, Valentine quipped, "I have no idea. It was whatever he wanted it to be."

Youkilis won't fight back against Valentine, instead looking toward the future, according to CSNChicago.com.

"I got nothing about any of that stuff," Youkilis said. "I’m over all the Boston thing this year. There’s a lot of great past history, but this year I’m focused on the White Sox."

On a different note, Youkilis is looking forward to coming back to Fenway Park on Monday. The ex-Red Sox says he expects it to be an emotional homecoming.

"After the first day, they don’t want me to do well playing against your team," Youkilis said. "So you never know what you are going to get. I think it will be a good reception."

The Chicago White Sox (48-39) could not pull out a close game late, allowing the Kansas City Royals (38-48) to get away with a 6-3 win Saturday night.

SP Jake Peavy (L, 7-6) held the Royals to just 3 runs through the first 6.0 innings, but in the 7th inning, SS Alcides Escobar launched a homer to give Kansas City a 4-3 lead. Then, in the 8th, Peavy allowed three straight singles to start the inning, and when RP Hector Santiago could not close out the inning cleanly, the Royals managed to stretch their advantage to 6-3.

1B Adam Dunn hit his 27th homer of the year in the top of the 6th inning, but he and CF Alejandro De Aza (2 for 5 with a double and triple) could not provide enough offense to keep the Sox undefeated since the All-Star Break.

It may have taken a little extra time, but the Chicago White Sox got the job done on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals by the score of 9-8 in 14 innings.

The lead changed hands four times in the game, with Chicago being able to find a way in the latter stages of the evening. The White Sox were trailing 7-6 in the ninth inning, before A.J. Pierzynski singled home Kevin Youkilis. Orlando Hudson tried to be the go-ahead run, but was cut down at home.

In the 14th, it was Gordon Beckham scoring on a Youkilis sacrifice fly for the eventual game-winning run. The ex-Red Sox had an incredible at-bat, lasting 14 pitches.

Chicago knocked around Kansas City pitching to the tune of 15 hits, with no fewer than five White Sox with multiple hits. Dayan Viciedo had a fine game going 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored. Adam Dunn and Alex Rios also hit bombs to support Jose Quintana, who only pitched five innings.

Quintana was hit hard, giving up five runs on eight hits including a pair of home runs. For the Royals, Bruce Chen was equally ineffective. Chen was battered in 4.2 innings for six earned runs on nine hits and three walks.

Chicago will try to secure the series with Jake Peavy against Luke Hochevar on Satruday night.

Marinez has pitched in 26 Triple-A games in the 2012 season, sporting a 3.14 ERA and 3.46 FIP. In his one previous stint in the major leagues -- a 2010 callup with the now-Miami Marlins -- Marinez featured a mid-90s fastball, a high-80s two-seamer and slider.

He joins a White Sox bullpen that has the third-worst bullpen ERA in the American League with a 3.78 ERA.
