<p>After throwing six shutout innings on Saturday, <span>Ryan Dempster</span> couldn't avoid questions about his potential departure from the club.</p>

<blockquote>
<p>With a little more than two weeks until baseball's trade deadline, 10 teams have shown legitimate interest in acquiring Dempster's services for the remainder of the season, according to industry sources. Those clubs include the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.truebluela.com/">Los Angeles Dodgers</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.letsgotribe.com/">Cleveland Indians</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.blessyouboys.com/">Detroit Tigers</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.pinstripealley.com/">New York Yankees</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.southsidesox.com/">Chicago White Sox</a> and <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.talkingchop.com/">Atlanta Braves</a>. <p>This season, Dempster is 5-3 with Major League-leading 1.86 ERA.</p>
<p>Levine reports that the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/">Cubs</a> are not only interested in young pitching prospects, but a highly-rated third-base prospect also is on the their wish list.</p>

<p>According to a report from ESPN's Jayson Stark, the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/">Cubs</a> have been bringing up <span>Bryan LaHair's</span> name in trade discussions on a regular basis.</p>

<p>Despite the slump noted by Stark in the above tweet, LaHair has a very good .286/.364/.519 overall batting line in 2012. LaHair collected 12 doubles, 14 home runs and 30 RBI during the first half, and those numbers helped him earn an All-Star nod.</p>

Various teams have already been mentioned as potential suitors for the Cubs pitcher, including the </span><a style="font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Liberation Sans', FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;" class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.blessyouboys.com/">Detroit Tigers</a><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Liberation Sans', FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;">. But Danny Knobler of CBS Sports </span><a style="font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Liberation Sans', FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;" href="http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/19535517/tigers-have-some-interest-in-garza-and-more-notes-from-all-star-futures-sunday">reported</a><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Liberation Sans', FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px;"> on Sunday night that the Tigers are unlikely to deal for Garza this season.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 14px; vertical-align: bottom; color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Liberation Sans', FreeSans, sans-serif; line-height: 18px;">That is despite the fact that, according to Knobler, Chicago's special-area scout David Littlefield recently scouted Detroit's Double-A squad. Although Garza is still under team control through the 2013 season, the team that trades for him will likely look to offer him a long-term extension. The Tigers, though, are fresh off of signing <span>Prince Fielder</span> to a $200 million-plus contract and are thought to be averse to spending major money in the near future. </p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 14px; vertical-align: bottom; color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Liberation Sans', FreeSans, sans-serif; line-height: 18px;">Likewise, Garza would almost certainly command a top prospect, and Detroit may not want to deal one of their best young farmhands for a rental. That said, the Tigers are clearly in "win now" mode, and may get desperate come the trade deadline if they find themselves further from the AL Central lead.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 14px; vertical-align: bottom; color: #333333; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'Liberation Sans', FreeSans, sans-serif; line-height: 18px;"><i style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;">For updates, stay tuned to <a href="http://chicago.sbnation.com/" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; color: #03406b; font-weight: bold;">SB Nation Chicago</a>. <p>The Chicago aren't going to compete for anything meaningful in 2012, so the trade rumors surrounding 28-year-old starter <span>Matt Garza</span> are sure to intensify as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches. It appears interest from around the league is beginning to grow. On Thursday Garza pitched against the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.talkingchop.com/">Atlanta Braves</a> -- going 4.0 innings and giving up five earned runs in a 7-3 loss -- and scouts for the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bluebirdbanter.com/">Toronto Blue Jays</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.letsgotribe.com/">Cleveland Indians</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.redreporter.com/">Cincinnati Reds</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.overthemonster.com/">Boston Red Sox</a>, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.azsnakepit.com/">Arizona Diamondbacks</a> and <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.vivaelbirdos.com/">St. Louis Cardinals</a> were <a href="https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/221277906729578498" target="_blank">all in attendance</a>, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports:</p>

<p>Garza has been very solid for the Cubs since joining the team in 2011 via trade. He posted a 3.32 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/era/">ERA</a> and 2.95 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/fip/">FIP</a> in 2011 and the 28-year-old has a 4.32 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/era/">ERA</a> and 4.38 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/fip/">FIP</a> over 93.2 innings in 2012. He is third-year arbitration eligible in 2012 and will become a free agent after the 2013 season. </p>

<p>In an anonymous survey of general managers and other top executives conducted by CBS Sports, the majority of respondents said they believe that <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/">Cubs</a> starter <a href="http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heyman/19508297/gm-survey-matt-garza-more-valuable-as-trade-commodity-than-even-zack-greinke-or-cole-hamels">Matt Garza holds more trade value than either Zack Greinke or Cole Hamels</a>. The reason is not because Garza is the better pitcher -- the executives agree that he isn't -- but because the club that gets him will control him for a longer period of time. That team would also receive a draft pick as compensation in the event that Garza decided to leave via free agency.</p>
<blockquote>
<p>The general consensus, though, is that while Garza seems to rank third among these three good pitchers, he is worth more than the other two on the trade market because of the following two points:</p>
<p>1. Garza will be tied to the acquiring team for a year and a half, not just a half year<br>2. A draft choice will still be attached to Garza whereas a team acquiring Hamels or Greinke would not have the benefit of an acquired draft choice should Hamels or Greinke leave via free agency after this year. That's because of the new CBA rules stipulating free agents must spend a year with their final team for their team to be awarded a pick.</p>

<p>The latest word from FOXSports reporter Ken Rosenthal suggests the <a href="https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/" class="sbn-auto-link">Chicago Cubs</a> may have a potential trade partner in the <a href="https://www.talkingchop.com/" class="sbn-auto-link">Atlanta Braves</a>, who may covet SP <span>Matt Garza's</span> consistency:</p>

<p><br>According to Rosenthal, the Braves young trio of pitchers -- <span>Mike Minor</span>, <span>Julio Teheran</span> and <span>Randall Delgado</span> -- may be on the table if they can acquire Garza:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>The Braves remain high on Mike Minor, Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado, but they're looking for more consistency in their rotation. If they can get a difference-maker such as Matt Garza, they could include on of those three in a deal.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Garza has been one of the Cubs' better pitchers since joining the team via trade in 2011, finishing the 2011 season with a 3.32 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/era/">ERA</a> and 2.95 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/fip/">FIP</a>. He currently sports a 4.06 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/era/">ERA</a> and 4.00 <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/library/index.php/pitching/fip/">FIP</a>.</p>

<p>According to <a href="http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/rumblings120629/mike-trout-bryce-harper-potentially-all-time-greats">a report from ESPN's Jayson Stark</a>, the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/">Chicago Cubs</a> are basing their <span>Matt Garza</span> trade demands on the precedent set by the deal between Colorado and Cleveland for <span>Ubaldo Jimenez</span>.</p>
<blockquote>
<p>We'd still wager heavily that Matt Garza will get traded in the next month. But if it happens, it'll definitely be a heavy-duty kind of deal. One AL executive's description of the Cubs' current model for a potential Garza trade is "the Ubaldo Jimenez deal." Translation: It's going to take two young, controllable players with big upside.</p>
