The Chicago Bulls will again be without their two best players when the face the lowly Charlotte Bobcats on the road on Wednesday night. Both Derrick Rose and Luol Deng will sit out due to injury.

Rose's sore right foot will keep him out of the lineup for the 25th time this season. It's the fifth different injury Rose has sustained this season. Deng will miss his second straight game and 11th of the season with bruised ribs.

Chicago should still be able to overpower the Bobcats without Rose and Deng, though that was also presumed before Chicago's loss to the Washington Wizards on Monday night.

The Chicago Bulls small forward Luol Deng has reportedly agreed to play on Great Britain's Olympic basketball team. Deng, a dual citizen of South Sudan and the United Kingdom, joins Detroit Pistons Ben Gordon and Charlotte Bobcats Byron Mullens.

Deng has played for the British national basketball since 2007, according to the team's official site, and will likely return to the team's starting lineup in the 2012 London Olympics. Deng has played exceptionally for the Chicago Bulls in the 2011-12 season, and earned his first All-Star game appearance since joining the league in 2004 as a 19-year-old.

The 26-year-old forward has also been struggling with torn wrist ligament for most of the season. Opting to wait until the offseason to perform surgery on the injury, Deng has played much of the year with the tear. It is unclear at this time whether or not his plans to participate in the Olympics will affect his plans for surgery.

Not that the Chicago Bulls (17-5) will need that much firepower against a listless Washington Wizards (4-16) team, but they may have the services of SF Luol Deng relatively soon. According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, Deng is rather close to returning. The Bulls head coach said so rather explicitly:

"I would say he's very close," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "He's doing more and more and feels a lot better. We want to make sure he feels good about playing. He still has to take contact on it. As long as he's moving in the right direction, we're pleased with that."

Deng is averaging a career-high 5.8 rebounds per game in the 2011-2012 NBA season, adding to his equally valuable 15.9 points per game. The South Sudanese forward has missed over a week since tearing a ligament in his wrist.

The Chicago Bulls count on Luol Deng for their defensive identity, but have had to make do without him since he suffered a torn ligament in his left wrist. Deng has consulted with surgeons and doctors about the extent of the injury and whether he needs immediate surgery, but now Deng has decided to give it a go and shoot for a Sunday return to the court. He is a right-handed player and brings most by way of perimeter defense, so perhaps he can still be effective without the use of his offhand.

KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reported from Friday's practice via Twitter that "Deng is shooting, dribbling, still on track to play Sunday" against the Miami Heat, but that there is still no guarantee he will hit his target date for a return. no doubt the Chicago Bulls will be fired up for their rematch against LeBron James and the Miami Heat after being knocked out of the 2011 NBA playoffs by them, so any help Deng could offer on the court against James would certainly give them a good chance to exact some regular-season revenge. The only question is whether putting Deng back on the court so quickly is worth the gamble when looking forward to a return to the playoffs.

SB Nation's Bulls blog, Blog a Bull, is not exactly excited about rushing their injured small forward back on the court so quickly:

That left wrist is needed to max out to do all of those things that Deng does to 'glue' the team together. It's needed to fight for rebounds, establish position off the ball, create space on the dribble drive, attack passing lanes, and set effective screens.

On top of that, how is anyone comfortable with Deng checking a 6'9", 275-pound freak of nature playing the most aggressive basketball of his career inLeBron James on Sunday afternoon?

The Chicago Bulls may be without Luol Deng for long. The small forward will return to Chicago's lineup within a week, according to a source that spoke with Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. Deng has torn ligaments in his left wrist, which are causing him to miss Wednesday's game against the Indiana Pacers.

According to Wojnarowski, Deng is expected to play on Sunday when the Bulls face the Miami Heat. That's a huge game for the Bulls as they face the team that knocked them out of the postseason last year. Doctors have told Deng that he's going to need surgery on his wrist at some point, but that would likely keep him out for three to four months.

Chicago currently has the best record in the NBA at 16-3, and Deng is arguably the second-best player on the team behind reigning MVP Derrick Rose. He's an impact defender on the wings and a solid scoring option, so his status is really important going forward.

Though the injury will probably require surgery, Deng has elected to finish out the season rather than go under the knife. According to K.C. Johnson of the Tribune, Deng suggested his biggest adjustment will be learning to play with pain, saying: "I'll be fine. Definetly disappointed. Gotta get the pain level down."

Luol Dengs' stats have been All-Star worthy in the 2011-2012 season. He leads the league with 689 minutes played, is 15th in the league with 105 rebounds, is 19th in defensive rating with 96.0 and is 5th in defensive win shares with 1.3.

The 26-year-old South Sudan native is currently in his 7th NBA season, all coming with the Bulls.
