Bulls: Tom Thibodeau Talks About Play Of Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah

The Chicago Bulls played an impressive game on Tuesday night without star point guard Derrick Rose, beating the Phoenix Suns 118-97. The strong performances from Chicago's front line and Rose's replacement, C.J. Watson, proved to be more than enough. Understandably, Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau was pretty satisfied with the way his team played, and particularly the play of post players Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah.

There's been concern of late about how Boozer and Noah have played while sharing the court together. Thibodeau spoke with reporters after the game, and he mentioned that he has no issue with how they play together.

I think they do fine. I think the record speaks for itself.

Asked how he thought they played on Tuesday against Phoenix, Thibodeau was similarly positive.

I think that they played well. You know, they played high energy, the ball moved freely, they were playmaking. Jo made a lot of good plays with the ball. They're fine, they're fine.

The Bulls' coach was clearly putting some effort into reiterating that the team doesn't have any issues with its current front court alignment. Boozer finished the game with 31 points on 14-for-21 shooting, but he actually scored 26 of those points in an impressive first half. Noah had 13 points and 12 rebounds, his second double-double in four games. More performances like this would probably soften everyone's concerns.

The Chicago Bulls didn't have too much trouble in a 118-97 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night. With the lead at 28 going into the final quarter, the Bulls were able to pull the foot off the accelerator and allow some reserves to finish things off. We were even treated to our courtesy Brian Scalabrine sighting, which is usually a sign of good news.

It was a strong offensive performance from the Bulls, as all five starters scored in the double-figures through three quarters. The team finished at 54 percent shooting from the field, and that includes the combined 0-for-8 numbers put up by the likes of John Lucas, Kyle Korver and Scalabrine.

Carlos Boozer looked like a star on Tuesday, leading the Bulls with 31 points on 14-for-21 shooting in just 32 minutes. C.J. Watson also proved to be a solid stand-in for the hobbled Derrick Rose, scoring 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting while dishing five assists. Richard Hamilton also looked solid on his first night back, scoring 11 points on 5-for-11 shooting in addition to having a team-leading six assists.

The win bumps Chicago to 13-3 on the season with an unbeaten record at home thus far.

The Chicago Bulls have continued their exceptional play and now lead 96-68 after three quarters against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night. The Bulls were hoping to bounce back from a lackluster effort recently against the Memphis Grizzlies, and they've certainly done that even without Derrick Rose.

The big offensive numbers have continued to pile up for the Bulls, who added another 29 points to their scoring total in the third quarter. Chicago is currently shooting 59 percent from the field with assists on 26 of its baskets and just four turnovers.

All five Bulls starters have already scored in double-figures, led by Carlos Boozer's 31 points and C.J. Watson's 20 points. It's been mostly starters for Chicago so far, as they've accounted for 90 of Chicago's 96 points thus far.

Coming off a rough performance against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Chicago Bulls have been positively on fire en route to leading 67-47 going into halftime against the Phoenix Suns. The Eastern Conference leaders put up a ridiculous 39 points in the first half, which is more than they scored in the entire first half against Memphis.

Usually the Bulls win with defense, but in the first half it was the offense that carried them. Even without reigning MVP Derrick Rose, the Bulls have had little trouble scoring against a porous Suns defense. Chicago shot 67 percent from the field in the first half, and made just two turnovers in spite of the fast-paced play.

Carlos Boozer was huge in the first half for the Bulls, carrying the load with 26 points on 12-for-15 shooting. He hasn't played as well as Chicago would like thus far, but he's stepping up so far for the Bulls without their best player. C.J. Watson has also been very effective in replacing Rose at point guard, making all five of his shots and all four of free throws for 15 points in just 13 minutes.

The Suns got a strong first half from point guard Steve Nash, who scored 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting while adding seven assists. Phoenix shot 51 percent from the field in the first half but looked pretty abysmal on the defensive end.

It will be Hamilton's first game action since Jan. 4 and just his second appearance in January; he missed eight straight games prior to Tuesday with a nagging groin injury. His return is more important with Rose out of the mix, as the Bulls could really use a scoring boost from the guard position.

Rose did not participate in shootaround with the Bulls. It's the second consecutive game that the point guard will miss, and the third time he's had to sit out in the last five games. Chicago had no trouble beating the Washington Wizards without Rose on Jan. 11, but they lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 102-86 without him on Monday night.

The Bulls take on the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday at the United Center.

The NBA regular season may always be a fickle beast , but it's true even moreso than usual this year thanks to the league's lockout-shortened schedule. Case in point: the Chicago Bulls beat the Memphis Grizzlies by 40 points on New Year's Day just two weeks ago. In another holiday game against the same team yesterday afternoon, the Bulls lost by 102-86.

The NBA, of course, is a league of stars, and there's one MVP-sized difference between the teams' first two games: Chicago was without star guard Derrick Rose yesterday, who was resting a toe injury. Rose remains uncertain for tonight's game against the Phoenix Suns. If he can't go, you can bet coach Tom Thibodeau will be on his team not to put forth a second consecutive lackadaisical effort without Rose.

Chicago was torched in Memphis, showing zero cohesion with its star point guard. Their defensive rotations were atypically a step slow, they went just 1-for-12 from three-point range, and starting center Joakim Noah finished with just two points and five rebounds. All of that is unexpected for what entered as the NBA's best team. A game against the 4-8 Suns should be just what the doctor ordered for Thibodeau's squad.
