The Chicago Blackhawks were defeated 5-4 by the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night after a spirited comeback in the game's final period. The Blackhawks blew a 2-1 lead and trailed 4-2 going into the third period, but they managed to come back and tie things late. A penalty gave the Flyers a last-minute power play, and they were able to capitalize.

Philadelphia's James van Riemsdyk scored the game-winning goal, his second of the game and his 11th of the season. The Flyers built their lead in the second period, as the Blackhawks let the flood gates open and allowed three goals over the course of just a few minutes.

That run turned a 2-1 Blackhawks lead into a 4-2 deficit, although Chicago came back with a quick pair of goals late in the third period to tie things up. Ultimately, though, the Blackhawks couldn't hold off that final Flyers power play and push the game into overtime. Chicago has now lost three times in four games, although it still has the second-best record in the Western Conference.

Andrew Shaw has had an eventful night for the Blackhawks; in the first period, he got into a fight that left his face bloodied and sweater torn. In the second, he gave the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead with his first career NHL goal. (Which leaves him an assist short of a Gordie Howe hat trick.)

From there, though, things unravelled in a hurry for Chicago, as the Flyers scored three goals in a four-minute, 20-second span. Scott Hartnell tied the game at two less than 30 seconds after Shaw had given Chicago the lead. Harry Zolnierczyk and James van Riemsdyk scored the third and fourth goals, respectively. The Flyers have out-shot Chicago 34-22.

The Chicago Blackhawks got some goal scoring from an unlikely place early on Thursday night when fourth-liner Jimmy Hayes got the Hawks on the board with his second goal of the season. Chicago maintained that lead until the Flyers pulled even in the last minute on a goal by Jakub Voracek, his sixth tally of the season.

The last time the Blackhawks were in Philadelphia, it was when they won the Stanley Cup trophy. Both teams are looking to rebound from losses earlier in the week.

The Chicago Blackhawks haven't been in Philadelphia since they hoisted Lord Stanley's cup for the first time in a long, long time. Both the Hawks and the Philadelphia Flyers have been on a tear this season and a re-match isn't out of the question. The Flyers have had a short stretch of going 2-4-1, including falling in the 2012 Winter Classic 3-2 to the New York Rangers and dropping them to second overall in the Atlantic Division, but overall on the season the Flyers have been very good.

The Blackhawks are also looking to rebound from a 4-3 loss on Monday to the Edmonton Oilers. Not only that, but the Blackhawks will be a bit short handed after Daniel Carcillo for seven games following a hit on Tom Gilbert against the Oilers. The Hawks will also be without Steve Montador and center Marcus Kruger, as the the team placed them on injured reserve. "When we lose one of our key guys, we find a way to play without him," captain Jonathan Toews said. "But it's no fun when that happens."
