The Chicago Bulls didn't have an easy time, but they came away with a 107-96 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night. Chicago led for essentially the entire game, but the Kings managed to tie the game for an instant in the second half before drifting away a bit.

Some big early leads gave way for the Bulls, as they got up by as many as 15 on two separate occasions in the first half but ended up leading 60-54 going into halftime. After a pretty tight third quarter, the Bulls were able to hold off the Kings in the fourth just enough to really prevent things from getting too close. Sacramento had some major missed opportunities at the free throw line, as the Kings made just 20 of 34 attempts (59 percent) from the charity stripe.

It was a balanced attack for Chicago on the night, as ten different players scored at least four points. Derrick Rose had a solid night with 19 points and 8 assists, while Richard Hamilton and Carlos Boozer were efficient in adding 16 points apiece. Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver were also effective scoring on the wings, as they combined to score 18 points on perfect 7-for-7 shooting, including 4-for-4 shooting from three-point range, in 18 minutes of play. The Kings were led by Marcus Thornton and Tyreke Evans, who scored a combined 39 points.

The Chicago Bulls are playing pretty well on Thursday night, but they haven't been able to pull away from the Sacramento Kings. The Bulls currently lead 94-82 early in the fourth quarter, as the Kings continue to put up a pretty good fight in front of their home crowd.

It's been a pretty good night for the Bulls shooting-wise, as they've knocked down 56 percent of their shots, but fouls have been a major issue all night. The Bulls have out-rebounded the Kings and held Sacramento to just 44 percent shooting from the field, but the Kings have attempted 27 free throws on the game compared to just 10 by the Bulls.

Chicago has led for essentially the entire game, but it doesn't appear that this game will end up being a blowout. The Kings are an interesting team with some talented players like Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins and Marcus Thornton, so they're not always easy to keep quiet.

The Chicago Bulls once again got back out to a 15 point lead, and once again they've allowed the Sacramento Kings to get back into things. Another run by Sacramento late in the quarter has Chicago leading 60-53 going into halftime.

After the Kings went on a 9-0 run to close out the first quarter and cut Chicago's lead to six points, the Bulls extended their lead back to 15 points thanks to a 10-0 run spearheaded by Kyle Korver. The Kings wouldn't allow the lead to get any bigger than that, though, and this time they finished off the quarter on a 8-1 run. Chicago still leads by seven points going into halftime, but Sacramento has kept this game very competitive.

Derrick Rose vowed to be more active earlier in games after a disappointing performance against Golden State in Chicago's second game, and he's Chicago's leading scorer so far. The reigning MVP has 11 points and five assists so far, but it's been a balanced attack by the Bulls. Luol Deng, Richard Hamilton, Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah, Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver have all scored at least six points apiece tonight in addition to Rose.

A few days after struggling in a loss against the Golden State Warriors, the Chicago Bulls are looking much better against a different California team. Even after a little run at the end of the period, the Bulls are holding a 30-24 lead over the Sacramento Kings after one quarter on Thursday night.

Chicago actually led 30-15 at one point, but the Kings went on a 9-0 run to end the period. The Bulls were dominant on defense initially, limiting the Kings to one make on their first 13 shot attempts, but Sacramento has shot 7-for-8 since that point. Some sloppiness has been an issue for Chicago so far, as the Bulls have turned the ball over five times and committed six fouls already.

The Chicago Bulls (1-1) travel to Sacramento to take on the Kings (1-1) on Thursday night.

Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer and the Chicago Bulls are looking to avoid a losing streak when they take on Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night. The Bulls got down early on the road against the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, and never quite recovered. Derrick Rose had a particularly difficult night during the 99-91 loss, finishing with just 13 points on 4-17 shooting. Although the team stressed the importance of defensive discipline and intensity after the game, the heartbeat of the offense is Rose. If the reigning league MVP doesn't look right, the Bulls are quite beatable. Here is what the crew at Blog a Bull has to say:

It's not news that when Rose isn't playing at MVP-type levels, the Bulls aren't that great of a team. But what's more worrisome is when Rose is subpar and the rest don't even look to be above average. And it starts with what should be the Bulls #2 option, Carlos Boozer. Boozer not only had an anemic 6 points in his 26 minutes, but he was consistently abused by his contemporary (in position and salary) David Lee. Boozer was also partly responsible for no less than three turnovers where Rip Hamilton failed to connect on an entry pass. Noah fared slightly better and Taj Gibson was part of a desperation comeback unit in the 4th quarter, but the entire Bulls frontcourt looked not only slow themselves, but fairly weak: often not being able to finish or getting the ball stripped before they even had a chance to.

The good news for the team is that they are set to take on a Kings team that has developed a well-deserved reputation for poor defensive efforts. After pulling off a surprising 100-91 win over the Los Angeles Lakes in their season opener, the Kings put up a stinker against the Portland Trail Blazers and lost 79-101. Even so, Sacramento is loaded with offensive talent. Marcus Thornton, Tyreke Evans, Jimmer Fredette and DeMarcus Cousins should present a great test for the Bulls defense. Cousins should be a particularly interesting player to watch on Thursday night, because he might finally be putting his immense talent to good use. Tom Ziller of Sactown Royalty explains:

The biggest offensive knock on Cousins last season -- even bigger than the turnovers, of which there were way too many -- was that he took way too many long jumpers. He's a decent shooter and can get off a jumper against anyone, but his physical make-up and agility are best suited in the pivot. A key development point for Cousins would be to shift his shot structure to rely less on the perimeter and mid-range and more on the post...Through two games, 19 of Cousins' 32 shooting possessions have come at the rim or on free throws. That's up at 59 percent ... much, much better. He's missed a lot of makeable layups and struggled at the line so far, but that should normalize so long as he doesn't force wild shots under the backboard against good defenders

Joakim Noah will likely matchup against DMC on defense, so be sure to keep an eye on how well Noah or Omer Asik can limit interior looks for Cousins. As for Fredette, Evans and Thornton, their talents are a double-edged sword. Known as offensive-minded guards, it may be the case that anything they do in terms of scoring will be matched or outdone by counterpart Derrick Rose. Expect a fast-paced game with plenty of scoring.
