Chicago Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox suffered a broken vertebrae during the team's week 15 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and after a successful surgery in December he has been working towards a return to the field in 2012. Knox's agent, Mark Lillibridge, spoke with Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday, revealing that the wide receivers rehab is progressing well and that his client plans on a returned by early to mid July:

"His rehab has been going great," agent Marc Lillibridge told the Sun-Times. "He's on the schedule that he planned to be back by early to mid July. He feels good. The team has been phenomenal with Johnny's rehab. He couldn't ask for a better staff."

Knox led the Bears with 727 receiving yards, a 19.6 yards per reception average, 12 plays of 20 or more yards, and 51.9 yards receiving per game. He hasn't always been the most consistent option on the outside for Jay Cutler, but no one can deny the explosiveness that Knox brings to the table on each and every play. If he can make a full recovery, the fifth-round pick from Abilene Christian figures to be a big part of the Bears' offense once again this season. Even so, new GM Phil Emery may still look into adding a taller option to provide some diversity for Cutler and the passing game.

Johnny Know underwent surgery on Monday following a scary-looking hit in the first quarter of the Bears' loss to Seattle on Sunday, and according to Seth Jensen, he's already walking and talking to teammates:

How is Bears WR Johnny Knox doing, you ask? I'm told that he's surprised doctors by already walking... a day after surgery.

That's great news for Johnny Knox and the Bears and impressive given the nature of Knox's injury. Knox is expected to have a recovery time in the neighborhood of three or four months and could be ready to play at the start of the 2012 season.

Johnny Knox underwent successful surgery on his spine on Monday, the Chicago Bears announced, and while Knox is definitely finished for the rest of the 2011 season, his long-term prognosis sounds good. This is what a league source told the Tribune's Vaughn McClure:

According to a league source, Knox cracked a facet joint, which help keep the spinal column stable. He should be recovered within three to four months, according to the source.

That's encouraging news considering how bad the hit on Knox looked, and it also matches the recovery timeline offered as an educated guess by spinal surgeon Neel Anand on Sunday night. If this report is accurate, then Knox would seem to be on track to play in 2012 and beyond.

The Bears' leading receiver with 727 receiving yards in 2011, Knox left Sunday's game after sustaining a severe injury in the first quarter. Earlier on Monday, Bears head coach Lovie Smith announced that Johnny Knox was not finished with his surgical procedures and that the third-year pro would miss the remainder of the season.

In recent weeks, the Bears have undergone a massive spate of injuries to their offense, losing QB Jay Cutler, RB Matt Forte, RG Chris Williams and now Knox.

The Bears will play again on Sunday evening, taking on the Green Bay Packers with their hopes of reaching the 2011 NFL Playoffs rapidly dwindling.

Bears WR Johnny Knox, who will undergo spinal surgery Monday morning, suffered a fractured vertebrae, said Lovie Smith this morning on his radio show. Though Knox will obviously be out for the rest of the Bears' season, it's unknown how long the injury will keep him sidelined.

Knox is the Bears' leading receiver on the season, having hauled in 37 balls for 727 yards and two touchdowns. Clearly his production will be missed, especially in the big play department, where Knox led all Bears receivers in yards per catch with 19.7 and first downs with 31. With Knox out, it will be up to Earl Bennett, Devin Hester, Roy Williams and Kellen Davis to revitalize what has been a stagnant passing attack.

The Sun-Times' Sean Jensen caught up with spinal surgeon Neel Anand, who works for the Cedars-Sinai Spine Center in Los Angeles, and asked him about Johnny Knox's prognosis. Encouraged by the news that Knox has full movement throughout his body, Anand was relatively optimistic:

"Neurologically, he's completely fine," said Anand, the director of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at the Cedars-Sinai Spine Center in Los Angeles. "The only thing left is the nature of the stability."

The doctor added that he thinks Knox will be ready to play in 2012 even if he must endure a "complete reconstruction." An innocuous fracture, requiring just screws and rods to fix, could have Knox back in three-to-six months, Anand said.

The Chicago Bears, who have been seen their offense decimated by injuries over the past month, will be without the services of WR Johnny Knox for an extended period of time, as he will undergo surgery on Monday. According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Knox will undergo surgery to stabilize a vertebrae in his back following a scary injury in the loss to the Seattle Seahawks:

@BradBiggs: WR Johnny Knox will undergo surgery Monday to stabilize a vertebrae in his back.

This will be another significant loss for the Chicago Bears, who are already missing both Jay Cutler and Matt Forte because of injuries. Knox has developed into a solid receiving threat for the Bears, as he has made 37 catches for 727 yards and 2 TD's this season.
