The Bears started off the pre-season with a win over the Buffalo Bills. The story of the game was the running game as Marion Barber and Kahlil Bell had great nights. The Bears depth on the defensive line showed up also as even the third and fourth stringers were able to apply pressure. Here are the news and notes from the fourth quarter. Notes from the rest of the game are listed below.

- Bears starting to show a pass rush in fourth quarter.

- After two big plays in a row by Bell, Chester Taylor should be very concerned.

- Chris Adams having a nice game for the Bears as an undrafted free agent. For all the talk about Dane Sanzenbacher, Adams is having a much better night.

- Bears coaching staff even experimenting during pre-season going on fourth down. Very Un-Bear like.

-Robbie Gould in mid-season form. Nailed a 45 yarder. Missed a 56 yarder in first half but was very close.

- Bears defensive line is so deep. Even the third and fourth strings are dominating. Then again if Wootton and Harrison injuries are serious they could need them.

-Undrafted Rookie Mike Holmes with a nice interception. First turnover forced in the game by the Bears.

- Harvey Unga is large and in charge when running the football. Just carried the pile seven yards from point of contact.

- You know there are too many players when you start seeing duplicate numbers.

-Buffalo with nine sacks on the evening.

-Robbie Gould misses from 34 yards. Now 1-3 on the night.

The Bears and Bills have completed three quarters of play. The Bears are holding on to a 7-3 lead. Here are the news and notes from the third quarter.

- Just on the eye test alone, if the Bears keep only three RB’s they should be Matt Forte, Marion Barber, and Kahlil Bell.

- Nathan Enderle not very mobile which when you have a bad offensive line is not good. Then again if Enderle gets any snaps this season does it really matter?

- Enderle throwing the ball better than Hanie did.

- Took five minutes in to the second half for the Bears offense to get first penalty. Very encouraging.

- Bears have now been sacked six times already with almost nine minutes left in third quarter.

- Zach Bowman with a great play to break up a pass. Bowman shaken up but walked off under his own power, but won’t return because of a head injury.

- Bears back up defenders have done the best job so far of stopping the run.

- Number of penalties is starting to increase as more substitutes are being used. Typical pre-season opener.

- Chris Adams and Enderle connect on a nice pass play.

- Enderle playing much better on second possession with much more time to throw.

- Typical rookie mistake by Enderle throwing an interception in the red zone. Had plenty of time but should have just thrown it away so they could get three points. Nice drive by the rookie with the exception of the interception.

The Bears and Bills have reached halftime with the Bears leading 7-3. Here are the news and notes from the second quarter.

- Marion Barber looks like the Barber of 2007. Ran the ball seven times for 45 yards and was clearly running through guys. Very encouraging. Chester Taylor should be worried about his job.

-Starting offensive line has played the entire first half. Creating some nice holes for Barber against Bills second string defenders. Still giving up way too many sacks on passing situations.

- Defense giving up yardage but making the stops when it counts.

- Vernon Gholston has looked good on defense and special teams. The former sixth overall pick of the Jets could be a nice addition.

- Passing game has been nothing this half. Caleb Hanie scored touchdown on a nice sneak.

-Buffalo seems to like using Brad Smith on the wildcat. May want to save it for the regular season if they plan on it being a “secret weapon”.

-Caleb Hanie has looked bad throwing the football. Missed some open receivers.

- Marcus Harrison left the game with shoulder injury. Questionable to return.

-Bears are still dominant on special teams. Nice returns by Knox and Earl Bennett.

- New Punter Adam Podlesh has looked average at best.

- Divots beginning to become a lot more noticeable in second quarter.

The Bears and Bills have completed the first quarter of play at Soldier Field with the Bills holding a 3-0 victory. Here are the first quarter news and notes:

- Corey Wootton got hurt on the opening kickoff with what is being reported as a knee injury.

- In Cutlers brief time playing he was sacked on a play that also had a holding penalty. Not good.

- Chester Taylor looks slow like he did last season.

- Johnny Knox might have been demoted as a WR but had a very nice kick return to show he belongs.

-Offensive line is what we were thought they were. Rusty.

- Not much of a pass rush by the first unit. Bears have been known to be pretty vanilla with their defensive schemes in the pre-season.

- Lots of the key starters are starting to leave game as expected.

- Field conditions seem ok. Tarp was on field earlier because of rain.

Bears begin pre-season Saturday against Bills.

The Bears and Bills will begin their 2011 Pre-Season on Saturday Night at Soldier Field. The first pre-season game is typically for rookies and younger players to show they belong on the final roster. Saturday will feature a lot of that but expect the starters to play more than they typically would. With no offseason or mini-camps these practice games are a little more important than they have been in the past.
