For most of this season the pitching staff of the White Sox has bailed them out of many games that the offense didn’t show up. Monday night the offense bailed out the pitching as the Sox came back to beat the Orioles 7-6.

The Sox got their scoring off to a quick start scoring four runs in the second inning. A.J. Pierzynski started the scoring with a solo homer, followed by an RBI single by Adam Dunn, and a two-run homer by Gordon Beckham. The Orioles would come back with two runs in the third and one in the fourth to pull to within one at 4-3. The Sox would add one in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-3. Things looked bleak for the Sox when Baltimore took the lead in the seventh on a three-run homer by J.J. Hardy. The Sox would rebound though and score two in the eighth and hold on for the 7-6 victory.

John Danks didn’t have his best stuff on Monday evening. Danks went six and a third innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits. The Sox lefty didn’t figure in on the decision. Jesse Crain earned the victory to improve to 6-3 on the season. Sergio Santos struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 23rd save of the season.

Jeremy Guthrie pitched ok for the Orioles with the exception of the second inning. Guthrie went seven innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits. Jim Johnson took the loss for the Orioles to drop his record to 5-4 on the season.

The two teams will meet in game two of the series Tuesday in Baltimore.

White Sox look to continue great road trip.

Last week the White Sox looked like any postseason hopes were swept away by the Yankees. The Sox playe just terrible in the Yankees series and the end of the Red Sox series in which they were outscored 49-16 during the six game losing streak. Coming off a sweep of the Twins, the Sox look like they are right back in the mix and now head to Camden Yards to face the last-place Orioles.

John Danks will start the series opener for the Sox. Danks is just 4-9 on the season, but has a fantastic ERA of 3.90. The Sox lefty is coming off a loss to the Yankees. Prior to that loss to New York, Danks was 4-0 with an ERA of 0.98 in six previous starts. The White Sox veteran did face the Orioles earlier in the season. Danks took the loss against Baltimore back in April giving up five runs in six innings.

The Orioles will counter with Jeremy Guthrie. Guthrie is having a rough season for Baltimore. The righty is 5-15 on the season but has a decent ERA of 4.34. The 15 losses currently leads the majors. Guthrie did face the Sox earlier this season and took the loss in a 6-2 White Sox victory.

Baltimore won three of four when the two clubs played at US Cellular Field in late April/early May.

The forecast in Baltimore at the time of first pitch is for temps in the 90's under partly cloudy skies. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 CST. The game will be televised on CSN+.
