When White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams acquired Jake Peavy in 2009 he was hoping he was getting a legitimate number one starter. Peavy hasn’t really lived up to his expectations because of injuries and the struggles of being in a new league. The Jake Peavy that pitched on Sunday is the pitcher Kenny Williams has been waiting for. Thanks to solid starting pitching, four homeruns, and solid defense the Sox (55-58) were able to complete their first sweep in the Twin Cities since 2004.

Brent Lillibridge started off the scoring for the Sox with his second homer in as many nights in the second inning. The Sox would score three more times in the fourth inning with the big blow a solo shot by Paul Konerko. Chicago would add three more runs, a two-run homer by Alexei Ramirez and a solo shot by Alex Rios, which proved to be more than enough for Jake Peavy.

The Jake Peavy that pitched on Sunday looked a lot like the former NL Cy Young award winner. Peavy went eight innings and allowed no runs on just three hits. The Sox righty also had six strikeouts and no walks. Peavy improved his record to 5-5 on the season.

Brian Duensing didn’t have his normal quality stuff he has when he faces the Sox. Duensing went six and a third and allowed five runs, four earned, on nine hits. The Twins (51-63) lefty is now 8-10 on the season.

The Sox will now head to Baltimore to open a four-game series with the Orioles. First game of the series is Monday evening.

Jake Peavy starts for the Sox in their quest to sweep Minnesota.

The up and down season for the 2011 Chicago White Sox has continued this week. The Sox began the week losing six in a row to Boston and the Yankees. The Yankee series was especially difficult to watch as all four games were dominated by the Yankees. The Sox looked lifeless and the fans were given a reason to start preparing for football season. Things only looked worse for the Sox as they headed to Minnesota, which as all Sox fans know has been a house of horrors for the Sox the past few years. Well this weekend has proved how unpredictable baseball can be as the Sox have won the series against the Twins and will attempt to go for the series sweep on Sunday.

Jake Peavy will go for the Sox in the series finale. Peavy hasn't had a great season for the Sox, but is coming off a quality start against the Yankees. The Sox righty went seven innings and allowed just three runs in a loss against CC Sabathia. Peavy enters the game Sunday with a record of 4-5 and an ERA of 5.13 and has faced the Twins three times in his career and has an ERA against Minnesota of 4.76.

The Twins will counter with Brian Duensing. Duensing is 8-9 with an ERA of 4.50 on the season. In his career against the White Sox, the Twins lefty is 4-0 with a 2.51 ERA in 11 appearances.

The forecast in Minnesota at the time of first pitch is temps in the low 80's under sunny skies. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 CST. The game will be televised on WGN.
