When the White Sox traded Edwin Jackson to the Toronto Blue Jays a few weeks ago they received in return veteran reliever Jason Frasor and prospect Zach Stewart. The thing about prospects is you never really know what you are going to get. If Saturday was any indication, the White Sox (54-58) got a steal.

Zach Stewart was very solid in his debut for the Sox Saturday. Stewart physically resembles Cub’s pitcher Jeff Samardzija, but on the mound resembled Mark Buehrle. The righty pitched to contact and worked quickly in leading his team to victory. Stewart went six and a third and allowed just one run on eight hits to improve his record to 1-1 on the season.

The game remained close through eight innings. Anytime the Twins (51-62) threatened Stewart made the right pitch to get out of the inning. In the ninth the Sox put a four spot on the board which put the game out of reach.

Carl Pavano pitched ok for the Twins but was the tough luck loser. Pavano went eight innings and allowed two runs, just one earned, on nine hits. The Twins veteran dropped to 6-9 on the season.

The Sox will go for the sweep Sunday afternoon in Minnesota.

Zach Stewart to make White Sox debut Saturday against Twins.

In what has been a very strange season for the White Sox, they could do something Saturday that they aren't used to doing. Win a series against their nemesis the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox haven't won back to back games against the Twins since April-May of 2010 and haven't won back to back in Minnesota since 2007. In the last 12 meetings between the two teams, the Twins have won 10 of those games.

Looking to put an end to the above mentioned streaks will be new Sox pitcher Zach Stewart. Stewart, who was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Edwin Jackson trade, will be making just his fourth career start. The right-hander is 0-1 on the season with an ERA of 4.86. Stewart hasn't pitched in the majors since June 27th when he allowed two runs in six innings against the Tigers.

Carl Pavano will start for the Twins in game two of the series. Pavano has struggled this season coming in with a record of 6-8 and an ERA of 4.90. Don't tell that to the White Sox though. Pavano has owned the Sox the past few seasons and this year has been no exception. Pavano is 2-0 against the Sox this season and has allowed only three runs in 16 innings.

The forecast in Minnesota at the time of first pitch is temps in the 80's with a chance of storms. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 CST. The game will be televised on WGN.
