Another extra innings game, another loss for the White Sox. Only a few short days after their marathon affair against the Nationals, the White Sox found themselves on the wrong side of a thirteen inning battle against the Colorado Rockies, losing 3-2.

The fatal blow came in the bottom of the 13th frame, when Ty Wigginton hit a bloop single to center field off of Will Ohman. The speedy Troy Tulowitzki managed to score on the play all the way from first, sealing the game for the Rockies.

The loss spoiled what had been a good rebound start by Gavin Floyd, who gave up just two runs on six hits and two walks over seven strong innings. Floyd cruised through the majority of the game, only getting in to trouble in the bottom of the fourth when he gave up a two-out RBI single to Seth Smith, after walking Troy Tulowitzki and giving up a hit to Todd Helton. At the time, that put the Rockies ahead 2-1, with the Sox lone run having scored on Alexei Ramirez’s home run in the top of the second.

The Sox tied the game in the top of the next inning, however, as Juan Pierre doubled in Gordon Beckham. But that was all the Sox could do against Jason Hammel and six Colorado relievers, who managed to keep the Sox from crossing the plate for the rest of the game.

Slumping designated hitter Adam Dunn was out of the lineup for the opener against Colorado, though he is expected to play at some point in the series.

The White Sox will try to rebound against the Rockies on Wednesday evening as they send Mark Buehrle to take on Ubaldo Jimenez. First pitch in Wednesday’s game will be at 7:40 P.M., CDT.

One day after facing the Cubs in a make up game, the Colorado Rockies will see the other Chicago baseball team as the White Sox continue interleague play with a trip to Coors Field.

Gavin Floyd will start for the Sox, as he tries to get back on track. Floyd, at 6-7 with a 4.31 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, is coming off of a start against the Cubs in which he gave up six runs on five hits and three walks over 5.0 innings pitched, while striking out three. In his career against the Rockies, Floyd is 0-1 with a 9.31 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, though most of the Rockies he has faced in the past are no longer with the team.

Pitching for Colorado will be Jason Hammel. Hammel, 4-7 with a 4.13 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, is also looking to right his season ship after some recent struggles. In his career against the Sox, Hammel is 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Adam Dunn is 5-for-13 against Hammel with two doubles, while Paul Konerko is 2-for-5 with two home runs.

The weather in Denver is forecast to be hot, with a chance of thunderstorms and a game time temperature in the upper 80's. First pitch is at 7:40 P.M., CDT, and the game will be televised on WCIU and ROOT Sports.
