The Chicago White Sox used their first pick of the 2011 first-year player draft to select outfielder Keenyn Walker from Central Arizona Junior College. Walker was the 47th overall pick in the draft.

The White Sox were one of four teams not to have a first round pick. The Washington Nationals obtained the White Sox pick, 23rd overall, as compensation for the Sox signing Adam Dunn. The White Sox received this Compensation Pick for losing pitcher J.J. Putz.

Walker, six-foot-three, 190 pounds, is a switch-hitter who throws right handed. The 20-year-old hit .402 this past season with 65 stolen bases in 68 attempts.

The Sox will need to hope signability isn't an issue with Walker. 2011 is the third time he has been drafted. In 2009 the Cubs selected Walker in the 16th round and in 2010 the Phillies drafted him in the 38th round. Neither team was able to sign him.

2011 is the ninth straight year that the White Sox have drafted a collegiate player. Last years first round pick, Chris Sale, made it to the majors just two months after the draft. Most scouts feel Waker is two or three years away from the majors.
