When Jake Peavy went down with a freak shoulder injury last summer, nobody knew when or if Peavy would pitch again. The injury he suffered was rare for a pitcher so it was unclear what to expect. The pitcher the White Sox saw on Monday night showed no effects of any previous shoulder problems.

Peavy quieted the Boston Red Sox and their red hot bats Monday night going seven innings allowing three runs on just six hits. The righty improved to 2-0 on the season and the White Sox have won the game in all four of his starts.

Jon Lester came in to the series opener Monday looking to win his league leading eighth game. The lefty just didn’t have it giving up seven runs on eight hits in his five and two thirds innings of work. Lester fell to 7-2 on the season and his ERA rose to 3.94.

The White Sox also welcomed back Gordon Beckham. Beckham had missed the previous few games after getting hit in the face on a throw from center field. Luckily for Beckham it just turned out to be just a bruise.

The trip to Boston couldn’t have come any quicker for the White Sox. After dropping the last three games in Toronto, Monday’s victory was their fifth in a row at Fenway Park. The White Sox are 11-2 in their last 13 games against the Red Sox.

The White Sox will look to win the series when the two teams play on Tuesday evening.

In what many predicted to be the White Sox toughest road trip of the season, the Sox begin the final three games of the ten game trip with a visit to Fenway Park. After dropping two of three in Texas and three of four in Toronto, the White Sox face their toughest part of the trip with a three game stop in Boston beginning Monday evening.

The Red Sox are the hottest team in baseball. They are returning from a seven game trip in which they won six games. After an awful start to the season, the Red Sox are now in first place in the AL East with a 30-23 record.

Jake Peavy will start game one for the White Sox (24-31). Peavy is making his fourth start of the season after returning from shoulder surgery. He has pitched well for the White Sox this season with a 1-0 record and an ERA of 3.00. The White Sox have won in all three of Peavy's previous starts.

Boston will counter with their ace Jon Lester. Lester has been brilliant this season with a 7-1 record and an ERA of 3.36. His seven wins lead the American League.

The White Sox were 3-0 last season at Fenway Park.

First pitch of Monday's series opener is scheduled for 6:10 CST. The forecast at first pitch in Boston is temps in the 80's with a chance of storms. The game can be seen on CSN.
