The three words in the headline tell pretty much the whole story of the Blackhawks’ 7-5 loss to the Avalanche in Denver Monday night, but here’s a bit more, if you can stand it.

First, the Hawks have to figure out the Marty Turco situation. Signed at a modest cost to replace the salary cap-departed Antti Niemi, Turco has been… mediocre at best, horrific at worst. He saw 10 shots last night and let four goals in. That’s bad. No, that’s awful. He was pulled in the second period before a lot of fans had returned from the restroom at the first intermission.

Corey Crawford was better… for a while. The Hawks led 5-4 with 8:17 left, but the Avs scored twice on him in the final 2:24 of the game and added an empty-netter.

Crawford’s likely going to start Wednesday when these two teams have a rematch in Chicago. But will it be enough with the Hawks having so many injuries? The good news is that the injured Marian Hossa and Fernando Pisani skated on Monday and could return soon. Coach Joel Quenneville hopes Patrick Kane, who has an ankle injury, will skate on Wednesday.

Denver, CO (Sports Network) – Tomas Fleischmann scored the game-tying goal and Matt Duchene registered the game-winner in a 60-second span late in the third period to help the Colorado Avalanche rally past the Chicago Blackhawks, 7-5, at Pepsi Center.

Duchene finished with two scores while Fleischmann assisted on the winner and Ryan O’Reilly’s empty-netter for Colorado, which has won three straight.

Paul Stastny chipped in with a goal and two assists while Brandon Yip and Cody McLeod each lit the lamp for the Avs, who matched a season-high for goals in one contest.

Craig Anderson turned away 29-of-34 shots for the victors.

Troy Brouwer had two goals and one assist for Chicago, which has lost two straight and three of its last five games. Jack Skille, Jeremy Morin and Bryan Bickell each provided offense in the setback.

Corey Crawford surrendered the late scores on 19 shots. He replaced Marty Turco early in the second period after the Blackhawks starter gave up four goals on only 10 shots.

Like the Blackhawks, the Colorado Avalance have had serious injury problems of late. Neither Milan Hejduk or Kyle Quincey are expected to play in tonight's game. Though the Hawks have been hurting as well, it's possible that even their struggling offense will be able to put something together against the 26th ranked goals/game Avalanche.

The biggest news items for the Hawks of late have been the starting of Marty Turco tonight despite solid recent play by Corey Crawford. The Hawks have also recalled forward Ryan Potulny from the Rockford Icehogs. Though the Avalanche are favored by some in this game, the Hawks own a 3-0-2 record in their last five games against Colorado and four of the last five meetings between the teams have gone to OT or a shootout.

Tonight's game is the first of a home-and-home set, with the second to be played Wednesday night at the United Center. The game is at 8:00 P.M. CST, and will be televised on CSN Chicago.
