The Blackhawks were accused by Canucks coach Alain Vigneault of running up the score in the Nov. 20 7-1 Blackhawks victory over them in Vancouver.

Coach Joel Quenneville said that simply wasn’t true — that the Blackhawks were just playing their game. But a good rivalry is developing between these two teams — it started during last year’s playoff series.

Friday night, Vancouver’s fine goaltender Roberto Luongo made 32 saves. Marty Turco, in net for the Blackhawks, faced only 18 shots and stopped 15 of them. Many days, that would be enough to win, but the Canucks, who are third in the NHL at penalty-killing, stopped seven shots on four Hawks power plays, and scored a power play goal themselves (they lead the league in power play chances).

It was the first time the Blackhawks had been shut out in the regular season since the Anaheim Ducks did it on Nov. 27, 2009. The Hawks will host the Calgary Flames at the United Center on Sunday night.

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – Roberto Luongo was sharp between the pipes, stopping all 32 shots he faced in Vancouver’s 3-0 victory over Chicago at the United Center.

Luongo recorded his second shutout of the season and 53rd of his career.

Henrik Sedin, Tanner Glass and Christian Ehrhoff each had a goal for the Canucks, who have strung together four consecutive wins on the heels of an 0-3-1 slide during which they were outscored 17-7.

Marty Turco, making his first start since November 24 at San Jose, made just 15 saves for the Blackhawks, who were shooting for a fourth straight win.

Chicago forward Patrick Sharp saw his goal-scoring streak come to an end at five games.

Corey Crawford had a good run in goal for the Blackhawks on their last road trip, but had a rough game against the Blues on Tuesday night, although the Hawks won the game with an offensive explosion.

So, coach Joel Quenneville will send Marty Turco out to start in goal tonight, if for no other reason than to keep him fresh. Perhaps this is a season where the Hawks will have two No. 1 goalies; that can only be a positive, because both can stay healthy and ready to go and not rusty if one gets hurt.

This will be Turco's first start since Nov. 24, when he allowed four goals in a loss to the Sharks. Turco has a win over the Canucks at home already this year, when the Blackhawks defeated Vancouver in a shootout 2-1 at the United Center on Oct. 20. The Hawks have won three in a row and six of their last ten and seem primed to make a run back to the top of the NHL standings.

The Blackhawks announced earlier today that they would have a moment of silence before tonight's game in honor of Ron Santo, the Cubs legend and broadcaster who passed away on Thursday. Blackhawks President John McDonough worked for the Cubs and with Santo for many years before coming to the Hawks.

Tonight's game begins at 7:30 p.m. CST and will be televised on CSN Chicago Plus. As the old saying goes, "check local listings."
