<p>Coach Joel Quenneville, who led the Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup in 49 years, has agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep him in Chicago through the 2013-14 season. From the Blackhawks official press release, comments from coach Q and GM Stan Bowman:</p>

<p>"This is an exciting day for my family and I. Chicago is a place we are proud to call home and the Blackhawks organization is one we feel fortunate to be a part of," said Head Coach Joel Quenneville. "Winning the Stanley Cup was a special season for all of us involved and I am looking forward to more opportunities in the years to come."</p>
<p>Quenneville is entering his third season with the Blackhawks after being named the 37th head coach in franchise history on October 16, 2008. Under his guidance the organization captured the 2010 Stanley Cup, Chicago’s first since 1949.</p>
<p>"Having Joel on board for the future was always a top priority for us as an organization," said Vice President and General Manager Stan Bowman. "His winning attitude is contagious with our players and support staff and I am confident his contract extension will help solidify the Blackhawks as an elite team on the ice for years to come."</p>

<p>Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, speaking this morning on <span class="caps">WGN</span> radio, <a href="http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/09/quenneville-thrilled-by-contract-extension.html" target="_blank">had this reaction to his contract extension,</a> which will be officially announced this afternoon:</p>

<p>“I’m very happy,” Quenneville said on <span class="caps">WGN</span>-AM 720. “It’s going to be for more than a couple of years. It’s a good thing for the family. It’s been a great couple of years. I know how excited we were when we took this job just a short two years ago. We knew it was going to be great so we’re thrilled.”</p>

<p>The <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.secondcityhockey.com/">Blackhawks</a> have called a news conference for 2:30 Thursday afternoon; they are expected at that time to announce a contract extension for coach Joel Quenneville.</p>

<blockquote>Quenneville, who led the Hawks to the Stanley Cup championship last season, was hired by the team as a pro scout in September 2008. He was named head coach the following month after the team fired Denis Savard four games into the season. He was entering the last year of his contract.
