Mark Teahen will be activated from the DL in time for Friday’s game:

But the Sox did option 21-year-old third baseman Dayan Viciedo to Triple-A Charlotte after the game and are expected to activate infielder Mark Teahen in time for Friday night’s game against Detroit.

Viciedo, 21, who signed a four-year, $10 million contract with the Sox prior to the 2009 season after leaving Cuba, showed flashes of the power that earned him that lucrative contract.

But Viciedo didn’t draw a walk in 82 at-bats and was hitless in his final 15 at-bats. He batted .268 with three home runs and seven RBIs in 27 games and will likely work on his plate discipline during the next three weeks with Charlotte before he’s likely to be promoted on Sept. 1.

Teahen batted .364 in 11 games during his rehab assignment with Charlotte, where he played third and first base and right field. He is expected to handle the same duties with the Sox for at least the remainder of the season.

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – Jason Kubel homered and Francisco Liriano worked 5 2/3 effective innings as Minnesota knocked off Chicago, 6-1, in the last of a crucial three-game set.

Orlando Hudson also homered and finished 2-for-4 while Jim Thome added a hit, a walk and a run batted in for the Twins, who moved into first place in the AL Central one game in front of the White Sox after taking two of three in the series.

Liriano (11-7) yielded a lone run on seven hits while walking two and fanning four for Minnesota, which leads the season series, 8-4. Three relievers combined to blank the Chicago the rest of the way, as Minnesota won for the sixth time in its last eight games.

Gavin Floyd (8-9) suffered the loss after allowing all six runs on 10 hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings for the ChiSox, who have dropped four of five.

Hudson’s solo home run, his fifth of the year, got the visitors on the board just two batters into the game.

Chicago had loaded the bases in the bottom half with a hit, a walk and a hit batter before A.J. Pierzynski’s infield single scored Alex Rios to tie the game. Andruw Jones then flied out to the warning track in center field to end the inning.

Michael Cuddyer started the second inning with a single, stole second base and moved to third on the play when there was nobody at the bag to take the throw from Pierzynski from behind the plate and scored on a Jim Thome sacrifice fly.

Hudson singled with one out in the third, moved to third on a Joe Mauer single and wild pitch and scored on a Danks’ balk with two out to make it a 3-1 game.

Liriano managed to escape a huge jam in the fifth as the Sox loaded the bases on a walk to Gordon Beckham and singles by Juan Pierre and Alexei Ramirez with nobody out. Rios bounced into a force at the plate before Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin struck out as the rally fizzled.

The southpaw hit Beckham to load the bases with one out in the sixth before Pierre flied out to shallow center field. Liriano was then removed from the game and replaced by Matt Guerrier, who got Ramirez to pop up to end the inning.

The missed opportunities proved costly when Alexi Casilla opened the seventh with a double and stayed put after two strikeouts and a walk to Mauer before Kubel clubbed a three-run homer to left to extend the Twins advantage to 6-1.

Minnesota is now 31-17 within the division…The Twins are 19-6 against the White Sox since May of last season and have also won eight of their last nine games at U.S. Cellular Field…Minnesota has won seven of the last eight series between the teams, as well…The Twins are 59-2 when leading after seven innings and 50-17 when scoring first…Liriano is 2-3 in nine games, including six starts, against Chicago with both wins coming this season in three turns…Floyd is 4-6 in 11 career starts against the Twins…Pierre has hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games…White Sox rookie third baseman Dayan Viciedo went 0-for-4 and is hitless in his last 15 at-bats…Chicago went without a home run for the first time in 11 games.

(Sports Network) - First place in the American League Central is on the line tonight in Chicago, where the White Sox wrap a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins at U.S. Cellular Field.

The Twins and White Sox entered this series tied atop the standings before Minnesota grabbed a short-lived lead with Monday's 12-6 victory, winning for a third straight game, but Chicago erased that deficit last night with a 6-1 triumph.

John Danks allowed just a run over eight innings and struck out seven, while Carlos Quentin paced the offense with a two-run homer. The White Sox snapped a three-game slide and have homered in a season-high 10 straight games.

"It's just another game in August," Danks said. "If we play this same game come mid-September it will be a bigger game."

Alexei Ramirez doubled in a run and scored twice for Chicago, which was without Andruw Jones due to a sore back.

Michael Cuddyer had two hits and drove in the Twins' lone run, but Glen Perkins was charged with six runs -- four earned -- over 4 2/3 innings in his first big league start in over a year. He was recalled before the game to replace the injured Kevin Slowey (elbow).

"It was an ugly baseball game for us. We made a lot of mistakes out there. It cost us a lot of runs," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, whose club fell to 5-4 on a 10-game road trip.

Minnesota also saw two players exit early last night, as a nagging left wrist injury forced J.J. Hardy out in the seventh inning, while left-handed reliever Jose Mijares suffered a right knee injury when trying to cover first base. He is likely to land on the disabled list.

The Twins will also have to deal with one of baseball's hottest starters in Gavin Floyd, who has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last 12 starts with a 1.19 earned run average in that span.

The right-hander has won three straight starts and six of his last seven decisions. He was 2-6 with a 6.64 ERA before his 12-game run, but is now 8-8 with a 3.49 ERA. Floyd won in Baltimore on Saturday, yielding two runs on six hits over seven innings.

Floyd, 27, is 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA in 10 career starts versus the Twins and lost to them on July 16 after allowing four runs -- one earned -- over five innings.

Francisco Liriano was the Twins' winning pitcher on that day and he counters Floyd again tonight. Liriano is 1-3 with a 5.82 ERA in his career versus the White Sox and gave up two runs over 7 2/3 innings versus them and Floyd nearly a month ago.

The 26-year-old lefty carried a 21 scoreless-innings streak into his last start on Friday, but that run came to an end in the first frame on Friday versus Cleveland. Liriano allowed four runs on seven hits and six walks over 4 2/3 frames in all, getting a no-decision.

Liriano is 10-7 on the year with a 3.33 ERA.

Minnesota has won seven of the 11 meetings with Chicago thus far in 2010. The Twins have also won in seven of their last nine trips to U.S. Cellular Field.
