Via Sports Radio Interviews, here are some quotes from an interview Carlos Boozer did on the Score with Dan Hampton and Laurence Holmes. Nice interview, even if the link spells Holmes’ name “Homes”.

Key quote:

“I don’t see us as having a glass ceiling. I feel like we have a team that can contend and I think that’s something we’ll learn if we get out on the court. But the talent is definitely here. We’re certainly not done yet making this team up obviously. We’re gonna add some pieces to our team whether it’s players that played here already or new players coming in like I am. Our pursuit is a championship and we’re not gonna stop till we reach it.”

Sam Smith at bulls.com reports on the signing of Carlos Boozer’s Utah teammate Kyle Korver:

Korver will join former teammate Carlos Boozer, who agreed to terms with the Bulls earlier this week.

Korver, 29, is a combo big guard/small forward who is a career 41 percent three point shooter who shot over 50 percent last season on threes for the Jazz and led the league. He’s not a classic pure shooting guard, but also at 6-7 an ideal wing player to spread the court for Boozer, which he did with the Jazz. It’s also part of the reason the Bulls liked the idea of adding Korver in that he was famillar playing with and off Boozer.

Forman introductory statement:

Great fit with Rose, great passer, great feel for the game.

Had him ranked as #1 power forward, contacted him on day one.

Been a success everywhere he’s been, college, Olympics, produced at a high level. #1 rebounder in NBA this past season. “Boozer is our kinda guy.” Professional, high makeup & character, involved in community, has great family.

Boozer introductory statement:

Happy to be here, started looking for a place, doing some basketball camps, “this is the place I wanted to come to first.”

Answers to reporters’ questions. Boozer:

Looking forward to playing with Rose, he has speed, athleticism, doesn’t get rattled on court.

Very comfortable in post, can use my strength to create space, but I can also pass. Look forward to bringing that presence to Chicago.

“We’ll be at the top and work our butts off. Have a bunch of guys who work hard, new coach in place hungry to win, who has been a winner. We can be as good as we want to be. We want to win a championship, that’s what we play for.”

Enjoyed SLC and Jazz, but this was the best decision for me.

Joakim Noah “has improved every season, has a great passion for the game, has grown every season. Came back strong, great rebounder, great shot blocker. Sky is the limit, he has a huge desire to win. Looking forward to playing with him.”

Reaction to LeBron: “trying to get him to come here to play with us, but I’m happy for him. Wished him good luck, he did the same for me.”

Thibodeau:

Carlos’ versatility is his best asset. Great low post player, great hands. Can draw people away from the basket. Great rebounder and passer, those things both make your team a lot better. Great at using body to seal people off. This is the kind of thing that can help win in the playoffs, a low-post guy, pick & roll guy. Deng, Gibson, also pieces that can fit and be successful in the playoffs.

Boozer:

I’ve gotten better on defense with Jerry Sloan, and with Coach Thibodeau I can learn to play better defense and answer my critics.

Forman:

Did believe LeBron, Bosh, Wade did consider Chicago but make the best educated decision for themselves. There was great interest, but we went into this process looking for interior scoring, a number of power forwards available, we have had Carlos ranked very highly for many years, and he is a fit for our team. We had $ to spend for two guys, but we wanted interior scoring and we’re very happy.

Boozer:

A lot of teams wanted me, staying in Utah was an option, but Chicago is the best place for me professionally and personally. They want to win for many years to come, have pieces, motivation, coach in place. “I want to win championships, I have none, I want to get some.”

Forman:

LeBron was professional with us, no criticism of last night.

Reaction: we got on the phones and continued to work. We want to improve our team, we still have some flexibility so we can still make trades or signings.

We want to build a championship contender. Off guard: pursuing several options and within the next week or so maybe get some guys in the fold.

Boozer:

We have to win — Chicago is a sports town, support win or lose, but we are driven to win, the rest will take care of itself.

Thibodeau:

Carlos will bring a lot to our team from a rebounding standpoint and he can sprint up the floor and get the ball up before their defense can get set. Very effective shooting jumpers, too.

Boozer:

We don’t mind being underdogs, we did that in Utah and we relish that role. I’m used to that; we’ll use that as motivation and go forward.

Miami will be a good defensive team, Pat Riley’s teams do that. Can’t be afraid to play someone if they have three really good players.

This will be an easy transition, Tom has a great vision for our team on both sides of the ball. What more do you want in a coach? Won a ring already in Boston.

Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng are the players he mentioned as the keys to the team, they all fit his style. We’re working on talking about other players “behind closed doors.”

Forman:

“We may bring back some of our own free agents, we are in negotiations with them now.”

Wouldn’t name any specifically.

Boozer:

Tough for any athlete to be injured, worst fear is to not be able to help your team out; got to move on and move forward. “I’m completely healthy and looking forward to the season.”

Tough to say goodbye to teammates in Utah, they said it would be a good opportunity for me.

Won’t share any Jerry Sloan stories on camera, he said with a smile.

It’s more or less moot because, as noted in the previous update, Carlos Boozer will be introduced as a Bull at 3 p.m. tomorrow, but officially, he’ll re-sign with the Jazz and then be traded to the Bulls:

The Bulls will acquire a protected second-round pick from the Jazz, who will sign Boozer to a five-year, $76 million contract and then trade him. The Jazz will receive a traded player exception in return that will allow them to acquire players totaling near $13 million any time in the next year, even if the traded players take the Jazz over the league’s $58 million salary cap.

Boozer, who will be introducted to the Chicago media at a 3 p.m. Friday news conference at the Berto Center, played one season with James in Cleveland and has been trying to recruit him to come to Chicago.

“I’m hearing the reports about him going down to South Beach, but hopefully we can sway his opinion and get him up here,” said Boozer, adding that he sent James a text message Wednesday. “I told him with DRose at the one, him at the two, Luol (Deng) at the three, me at the four and Jo (Joakim Noah) at the five, we could be one of the best teams of all time. But he has to make his own decision.”

“I’m going to text him again this morning and see what his reply might be. If we get him, we could rival one of the best teams of all time and be able to put together championship after championship. If we don’t get him, we’ll compete against him and we’ll bring it to him.”

Boozer said James texted back to him that he was “weighing between two different teams.”

Well. That last paragraph gives us at least a bit more than the outright speculation that’s gone on most of this week.

Here’s some outright speculation on the two teams: Bulls and Cavaliers. We’ll see tonight.

Tim Buckley and Jody Genessy of the Deseret News write that Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor will look at sign-and-trade possibilities so that the team can get something out of power forward Carlos Boozer’s departure to the Chicago Bulls.

O’Connor said he would initiate sign-and-trade talks with the Bulls.

“I’ve got to talk with them,” O’Connor said, “and see if Chicago is interested.”

A sign-and-trade between Utah and Chicago could add one year to Boozer’s deal.

It’s believed the Jazz would not be able to land Bulls small forward Luol Deng as part of a sign-and-trade, but their target could be Chicago power forward Taj Gibson.

The Bulls have no need to trade either player and can keep both if they want to. However, they could simply offer a giant trade exception to the Jazz in exchange for Boozer which would provide some extra flexibility for the Jazz down the road.

This morning’s breaking news that free agent power forward Carlos Boozer would be a Chicago Bull caught a lot of fans by surprise, given how quickly it came down after Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh announced they were headed to the Miami Heat togther.

Turns it, it wasn’t just fans who were caught off guard. So were executives for the New Jersey Nets, who were in competition with the Bulls for Boozer’s services.

Dave D’Allesandro of NJ.com explains that Nets president Rod Thorn made a $75 million offer for Boozer on Wednesday afternoon and was expecting a call back from Boozer’s agent to continue negotiations. But the call never came.

Two hours later, the Nets learned — with no warning and no recourse — that Boozer signed a five-year, $80 million deal with the Chicago Bulls.

"They never gave us a chance to match, which we probably would have done," said the official, who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak for the team. "We didn’t even get a chance to meet."

New Jersey’s loss is Chicago’s gain. Boozer ensures the Bulls do not leave 2010 free agency empty-handed.
