Notre Dame's fearsome defense will still be led by Bob Diaco, at least for the near future. The Irish's defensive coordinator was up for the Boston College head coaching job, but the Eagles decided to go with Temple head coach Steve Addazio, keeping Diaco at his post in South Bend.
But while BC passed on Diaco, he may be a candidate for the suddenly available Wisconsin job. Bret Bielema left Madison for Arkansas on Tuesday, creating an opening in the Big Ten which some have speculated that Diaco may be a candidate for.
That Diaco is a candidate for these jobs is no surprise considering how good the Notre Dame defense has been. They are sixth nationally in total defense and have given up more than 17 points in a game just once this season.
Whether Diaco is offered and accepts the Wisconsin job, or any other post for that matter, he is expected to stick with the Irish through the BCS National Championship Game. That is crucial for a school gunning for its 12th national title and going up against defending champions Alabama.
