The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are the new No. 1 team in the SB Nation BlogPoll this week. With last week's No. 1 Kansas State and No. 2 Oregon both losing, the Irish moved up from No. 3 into the top spot. The Kansas State Wildcats lost to Baylor and the Oregon Ducks fell to Stanford, opening up the No. 1 ranking for Notre Dame who shut out Wake Forest, 38-0.
The Irish received 63 first place votes with Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, and Texas A&M all earning at least one first place vote as well. The ballot breakdown shows that no voters placed Notre Dame any lower than fourth in their rankings.
Notre Dame plays at USC on Saturday, Nov. 24. If they win that game they will likely hold the top ranking and advance to the BCS championship.
Another area team made its way into the top 25 for the first time this week, as Northern Illinois came in at No. 24 after knocking off Toledo. They close out their regular season against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 23 and will play Kent State in the MAC Championship on Nov. 30.
