The Notre Dame Fighting Irish moved up to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 Poll on Sunday after beating the Miami Hurricanes, 41-3, to remain undefeated Saturday.
A strong rushing attack and a big third quarter helped Notre Dame break the game open. The Irish led 13-3 at halftime, then scored three touchdowns in the third quarter. Notre Dame finished with 376 yards rushing on 51 carries. Running backs George Atkinson III and Cierre Wood had 123 and 118 rushing yards, respectively.
Florida State, Georgia and LSU were all previously ranked ahead of Notre Dame, but all three suffered losses this week.
The Northwestern Wildcats, which just entered the rankings at No. 24 last week after improving to 5-0, quickly fell out after suffering their first loss of the season, 39-28, against Penn State on Saturday. The Wildcats blew a 28-17 lead entering the fourth quarter and gave up 22 unanswered points.
