On Tuesday afternoon, Notre Dame announced it has exercised an option which extends head football coach Brian Kelly's contract for an additional two years, through 2016.
In a statement, Notre Dame director of athletics Jack Swarbrick said he is pleased with the direction of the program and is confident that Kelly will be able to sustain success in the long run.
"While Coach Kelly and I are focused on the additional work that must be done to reach our goals, I am very pleased with the progress we have made during the past two years." University of Notre Dame vice president and director of athletics Jack Swarbrick said.
Kelly is 16-10 in two seasons at Notre Dame and has taken the Irish to a pair of bowl games.
