WR Kyle Prater Cleared To Play For Northwestern In 2012

Wide receiver Kyle Prater transferred from USC to Northwestern following the 2011 season, but he won't have to sit out the 2012 season thanks to the waiver request that was approved by the NCAA on Tuesday. Prater transferred in order to be closer to a sick relative.

"My family is very important to me," Prater said in a release, "so it means a lot for them to be nearby while I play football and earn my degree at Northwestern."

Prater had expressed confidence in the NCAA ruling in June in an interview with the Tribune, saying: "It has been a strange process, but we’re optimistic."

Prater was ranked the No. 1 wide receiver prospect in the class of 2010 by Rivals.
