Bracketology 2012: Northwestern In Tournament Per USA Today

The Northwestern Wildcats are teetering on the brink of making the NCAA Tournament.

The Northwestern Wildcats survived what would have been a devastating loss on the road to the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, and as of Monday, are being called by USA Today's Bubble Tracker as one of the "last four teams in" the 2012 NCAA Tournament. That may be of some comfort to Wildcat fans, but Northwestern's attempt to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history will definitely come down to the wire, and may have as much to do with what other teams do.

To that end, the Wildcats gota bit of bad news on Sunday when the Miami Hurricanes— a fellow team very much on the bubble— scored a double-digit home victory over the Florida State Seminoles. Bubble Tracker now lists the Canes as one of the "last four teams in," and ahead of Northwestern in the pecking order.

The Wildcats will finish up the season by hosting the Ohio State Buckeyes at home, and though a victory there would almost certainly guarantee them a spot, anything short of getting totally blown out shouldn't harm them. But the Wildcats will need to win their final road game of the season on the road vs. the Iowa Hawkeyes if they want to leave themselves in good position heading into the Big 10 Tournament.
