Week 2 College Football Roundup: Illini and Wildcats Both Win

Illini and Wildcats notch easy victories Saturday.

Both local Big 10 teams won their games Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the season.

 

Illinois 56  South Dakota St. 3

The Illini offense exploded for the second week in a row.  Illinois ran the ball 50 times for 364 yards and was nearly perfect passing the ball as they were 16-18 as a team for 155 yards.  Troy Pollard lead the ground game running the ball eight times for 101 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Nathan Scheelhasse passed the ball for 102 yards and ran for another 93 yards and added two touchdowns of his own.

The Illinois defense was even more impressive Saturday allowing only 96 yards of total offense and forced two Jackrabbit turnovers.

The Illini will host Arizona State next Saturday evening in Champaign.

 

Northwestern 42  Eastern Illinois 21

Northwestern improved to 2-0 on the season and their best player, Dan Persa, has yet to play a down this season. Saturday the Wildcats were lead by Kain Colter who passed for 104 yards and also ran the ball for 109 yards and three touchdowns.

Eastern Illinois was able to move the ball against the Wildcat defense. The Panthers offense racked up 341 yards of total offense, but their defense wasn't able to stop the Northwestern offense allowing 42 points and 437 yards of offense.

Northwestern will travel to Army next Saturday.
