Tre Demps Injury: Northwestern Wildcats Guard Undergoes Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery

Tre Demps is out for the rest of 2011-12.

Northwestern announced on Tuesday afternoon that freshman guard Tre Demps will miss the rest of the 2011-12 season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder. Demps originally suffered a torn labrum during the summer and played through the injury with a shoulder brace. In a statement, head coach Bill Carmody said that repairing the shoulder now was the best thing to do:

"The injury really limited Tre and it was in his best interest to get it taken care of at this time," Northwestern coach Bill Carmody said in a statement. "By getting the surgery done now, it should allow him to return to full strength by late spring."

Demps, who averaged 2.3 points in four games this season, will be eligible to apply for a medical redshirt.
