Northwestern appears to have generated some momentum from its victory over Indiana last week, as the Wildcats have jumped out to a 7-0 lead at Nebraska at the end of the first quarter. Northwestern senior QB Dan Persa was magnificent in the opening 15 minutes, completing 7 of his 8 attempts.
The lone score of the game came from senior RB Jacob Schmidt, as he finished off an outstanding 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. As strong as the offense has been, the play of the Northwestern defense has been even more impressive. The Wildcats have limited big plays from the normally explosive Nebraska offense, limiting Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez to only 15 yards rushing.
Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead has continued his impressive play, rushing for 41 yards and also making three receptions for 30 yards.
