Although it has had some more success moving the ball down the field, Northwestern trails Michigan St., 24-10, heading into the final quarter. After both teams scored TD's on their opening drives of the half, the defenses tightened up and ensured that there was everything to play for in the final quarter.
Northwestern struck quick to open the half, as the Wildcats drove 69 yards in under two minutes. The majority of the drive came on one play, when Dan Persa hooked up with Drake Dunsmore on a 69-yard completion. Two plays later, Persa found Jeremy Ebert for a two-yard TD pass.
The Spartans responded in impressive fashion, putting together a TD drive of their own. The 10-play drive took over five minutes off the clock and was capped off by a 33-yard TD pass from Kirk Cousins to B.J. Cunningham.
