Bad news for Northwestern fans and their football program; Chicago Breaking Sports is reporting that quarterback Dan Persa ruptured his Achilles tendon during the 21-17 win over Iowa Saturday afternoon. He’ll miss the Wildcats’ final two regular season games against Illinois and Wisconsin and any bowl game they qualify for.
The injury apparently happened after Persa’s touchdown pass to Demetrius Fields with 1:29 remaining in the game; that pass won the game for the ‘Cats. Chicago Breaking sports reports that "Persa was on the ground clutching his right calf even though he wasn’t hit on the play."
That’s a real blow for the program and a real shame for Persa, who will have surgery tomorrow.
Evan Watkins, who played high school ball at Glenbard North, will start next week’s game at Wrigley Field.
