On a gloomy, wet afternoon in Evanston, Northwestern junior QB Dan Persa has completed 11 of 12 passes for 99 yards, and also scored the game’s only touchdown on a two yard run midway through the first quarter.
The Wildcats later took possession on Iowa’s 40 yard line, but Stefan Demos missed a field goal attempt that would have made the score 10-0.
Iowa converted a fourth down and four to go play on the Northwestern 35 with a 20 yard pass from Ricky Stanzi to Allen Reisner and after three further incomplete passes, Michael Meyer kicked a 32 yard field goal to make the score 7-3 just before halftime.
Stanzi completed 11 of 17 passes in the first half for 83 yards. The fast first half — it was played in only an hour and ten minutes — reflected the fact that there were no fumbles lost or interceptions made by either team.
