The Southern Illinois Salukies put the finishes touches on an 8-23 campaign with a loss to Indiana State on Thursday in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, a season so disappointing it will cost longtime head coach Chris Lowery his job. It is being reported that Lowery was fired this morning after eight seasons as the top man at Southern Illinois.
The university has scheduled a press conference for 3:30 p.m. to make an official announcement.
What makes this story more interesting? CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman is reporting the Salukies will go after soon-to-be-fired Illinois coach Bruce Weber.
Source also told CBSSports that Southern Illinois will target after Bruce Weber, who was there from 98-03- if he's let go at Illinois.

Weber appears to be a dead man walking in Champaign. His Illini fell last night to Michigan and are just 2-10 in their last 12 games.
