The Illinois Fighting Illini are one of two winless teams in the Big Ten after Saturday's home loss to the the Indiana Hoosiers. Both Illinois and Indiana came into the game at 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten. Now Illinois and Purdue are alone as the Big Ten's only winless squads, both at 0-4.
Illinois blog The Champaign Room expressed disappointment not only about the game itself, but the way the season has gone:
And then, on October 27th, the Fighting Illini lost to the Indiana Hoosiers. At home. Welcome to the nadir of the season.
Coming into this game, the Hoosiers' defense had only recorded twelve sacks all season. They managed seven today. Seven. Remember when the OL was a strength of the team? Now it looks like me standing outside the bar on a cold night. "Oh, you need to get by? Go ahead, I'm not that cold."
Things don't get easier as the Illini face undefeated Ohio State next week. They should, however, have two good chances at home to get a win against 1-3 Minnesota and winless Purdue before closing the season on the road at Northwestern.
