Super Bowl 2012: Former Illinois Punter Steve Weatherford Excited For Championship Opportunity

There are two former University of Illinois players preparing with the New York Giants for Super Bowl XLVI: offensive lineman David Diehl, and punter Steve Weatherford. Weatherford, who was an all-conference player for the Illini, went undrafted in the 2006 NFL draft but caught on with the New Orleans Saints. He's also had stops in Jacksonville, Kansas City, and he spent two years with the Jets prior to joining the Giants.

Weatherford says the Giants are relishing the underdog role as they prepare to face the New England Patriots on Sunday:

"I’m not sure what the point spread is, but I can guarantee you we are underdogs," he added. "We are excited to get there, and officially we are the away team. We like that. When they put us as the underdogs and as the away team, you know that’s just a little more fuel for our fire."
