Big Ten Football: Week 2 Predictions

Michigan/Notre Dame and Alabama/Penn State highlight this week of Big Ten action.

Not many surprises in the first week of the Big Ten Football season. For those of you who were keeping score I was 10-2 the first week with my only losses being Northwestern and Indiana. Here is hoping to improve in week 2 of the season. Here are my picks.

Michigan State 38  Florida Atlantic 7

Sparty shouldn't be tested at home against a much weaker opponent. No real surprises in this one.

 

Iowa 24  Iowa State 21

This game is always a great contest when the two state schools meet up. I like the Hawkeyes by three in what should be a tight game.

 

Wisconsin 49  Oregon State 10

Bucky should roll again. The Beavers seem down this year and Wisconsin looks to be a possible BCS Bowl team once again. Badgers should win big.

 

Illinois 52  South Dakota State 21

Illini offense was impressive in their week one win. No reason it shouldn't continue this week.  Illini should win with ease at home.

 

Ohio State 42  Toledo 17

Wouldn't be shocked if Toledo made it a game for a quarter or so, because those MAC teams can be kind of sneaky. Buckeyes will pull away in the second half and make it look like a blowout.

 

Alabama 31  Penn State 17

Roll Tide. Happy Valley not an easy place to play, but 'Bama is used to hostile environments and will win this one also. Game will be closer than when the two teams met last season, but Alabama should still win.

 

Northwestern 31   Eastern Illinois 14

If one thing was evident last week it was this. No Persa. No Problem.  Uncertain if the 'Cats star QB will play, but either way they should win their home opener.

 

Minnesota 28  New Mexico State 17

Gophers looked a lot better than expected last week against USC. I like Minnesota at home in this matchup.

 

Rice 31  Purdue 27

The Boilermakers struggled in their week one victory at home against Middle Tennessee. Now they hit the road and I expect the Owls to win a close game.

 

Nebraska 51  Fresno State 14

Nebraska faces a better opponent this week, but I still like the 'Huskers at home.

 

Virginia 28  Indiana 20

Hoosiers continue their struggles dropping a close one to the Cavaliers.

 

Michigan 31  Notre Dame 24

Irish couldn't beat South Florida at home. This will be a close game. but Michigan will win at the Big House.
