Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl 2011: Illinois Defensive Coordinator Vic Koenning Mulling His Future

Illinois defensive coordinator Vic Koenning was hired by Ron Zook in 2010, and new coach Tim Beckman would like to keep him on board in the same capacity. However, because Beckman plans to clean house and bring in his own guys to work with Koenning, it appears that Koenning is leaning toward moving on to a new school:

"Y’all know me,’’ Koenning said. "I’m only as good as the staff. The success we had this year was because of us. It was the defensive staff and the players.’’

He mentioned Auburn and Troy as two potential landing spots. An answer from Koenning, one way or the other, is expected on Wednesday.

Under Koenning, the 2011 Illini finished second in the Big Ten and seventh nationally in total defense.
