NCAA Basketball: D.J. Richardson Leads Illinois Past SIU-Edwardsville

Illinois improved to 2-0 with a 66-46 victory over SIU-Edwardsville on Monday.

Junior guard D.J. Richardson scored 20 points to help lead Illinois to a 66-46 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Monday at Assembly Hall. Richardson has been known more for his stout perimeter defense during his first two seasons in Champaign, but the exit of leading scorer Demetri McCamey means Richardson, along with fellow junior Brandon Paul, will have to carry the majority of the scoring load for the Illini this season. After scoring only five points in 30 minutes against Loyola (Ill.) in the season opener, coach Bruce Weber is likely encouraged by the Richardson's strong second game.

Forward Tyler Griffey also excelled in the victory, posting a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Highly regarded sophomore center Meyers Leonard added eight points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks in the win.

The Cougars were led by Mark Yelovich, who finished with 13 points.
