The DePaul Blue Demons (6-3) surged ahead early in the first half to keep the Chicago St. Cougars (0-9) winless with a 102-95 victory.

Cleveland Melvin baffled the Cougars defenders, going 12 for 22 from the floor to collect a career-high and game-high 30 points. Leading the team in minutes (32) and rebounds (8), the sophomore forward helped lead the Blue Demons, up 51-47 at the half, to their second straight victory.

Melvin started the game with a three point jumper, giving the Blue Demons a 3-0 lead. Jamee Crockett (11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) followed with a crowd-leasing dunk, and with their 5-0 lead, DePaul never looked back, maintaining the lead through the remainder of the game.

Guards Brandon Young and Jeremiah Kelly also gave the Cougars defense fits adding 21 and 19 points respectively, while also snagging five rebounds.

The Blue Demons will be back in action next Wednesday, visiting the Northern Illinois Huskies. (Click here for the DePaul Basketball full schedule.)
