The DePaul Blue Demons rebounded from a loss in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic with a win over Texas Tech in the consolation bracket on Friday. Cleveland Melvin led the way for DePaul with 25 points in as many minutes on 10-19 shooting. Brandon Young scored 24 for the Blue Demons, who advanced to the tournament's fifth place game with the win.
Texas Tech held a slim 37-36 lead at the half, but it only took about six and a half minutes for DePaul to turn that into a seven-point lead in the second half. The Red Raiders were down nine points with 1:59 to play but rallied to the point where they had the ball and a chance to tie with less than 30 seconds to play. But a turnover and some clutch DePaul free throws put the game out of reach.
On Sunday, DePaul will play the winner of the Arizona State vs. Wake Forest game.
