The Chicago White Sox (59-48) open a three-game set against the Kansas City Royals (45-62) on Monday. Lefty SP Chris Sale takes the mound against SP Luis Mendoza as Sale looks to build his case for the 2012 AL Cy Young award.
Sale, 23, has an impressive 2.61 ERA and 2.82 FIP through 124 innings in 2012. He has struggled with injuries in his young career, and the Sox briefly moved him to the bullpen this season when his arm started to bother him.
Mendoza, 28, is a minor league veteran who broke into a weak Royals rotation this season. He has pitched a career-high 100 innings in 2012, sporting a mediocre 4.32 ERA and 4.11 FIP.
