The White Sox have a chance to distance themselves from the Tigers, as Chicago begins a three-game series in Detroit on Friday.
Chicago is three games up on Detroit in the AL Central standings. The rest of the division is in the rear-view mirror, as Kansas City is in third, but 13 games back of the White Sox.
On the other hand, the Tigers have a chance to finish the weekend tied atop the standings. As far as the wildcard, the Tigers are three games back there, as well. The Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles are tied for the wildcard lead.
The White Sox last won a division title in 2008. This weekend's series in Detroit could be a turning point for one of these teams.
