The Chicago White Sox will start a weekend series with the Detroit Tigers Friday night at 6:05 p.m. CT that could allow the White Sox to put some distance between themselves and the Tigers, who are currently three games behind Chicago in the AL Central.
The White Sox come into the series after losing three of four to the Baltimore Orioles. They actually picked up a half game in the standings, though, because the Tigers were swept by the Kansas City Royals heading into the weekend.
Jake Peavy (9-9, 3.09 ERA) will pitch tonight for Chicago. He's started four games against the Tigers this season and is 1-1 in those starts with a 5.06 ERA. The White Sox have lost three of those four games.
Doug Fister (7-8, 3.67 ERA) will start for the Tigers. Fister missed his last schedule start with a groin injury and has not pitched since an August 19 loss against Baltimore in which he lasted just 3.2 innings. He has not pitched against the White Sox this season, but he's 0-2 with a 3.51 ERA against them in four career starts.
