White Sox Demote Pitcher Dylan Axelrod After 8-1 Victory

Dylan Axelrod gave the Chicago White Sox a great start yesterday, but that's not keeping him from being demoted to Double-A Birmingham.

Axelrod allowed only one run in 7.1 innings of Wednesday's 8-1 White Sox victory over the Baltimore Orioles to improve to 2-2 on the season, and he likely will be back on the roster before the end of the season. He is being demoted to Birmingham rather than Triple-A Charlotte so that he can be brought back up to the White Sox faster.

By sending Axelrod down, the White Sox are able to bring up utility infielder Jose Lopez. Lopez, who plays second and third, appeared in 66 games for the Cleveland Indians earlier this season. The White Sox signed him to a minor league contract on Aug. 15 and he has since batted .306 with ten RBIs for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.
