The Chicago White Sox have a two-game lead in the A.L. Central.

Presswire

Of the six division races in baseball, only one -- the N.L. West -- is closer than the A.L. Central, where the Chicago White Sox currently lead the Detroit Tigers by two games. The White Sox are off on Thursday after completing a sweep of the New York Yankees, and they'll be watching eagerly as the Tigers look to complete a sweep of their own, over the Toronto Blue Jays. If the Tigers drop Thursday's game, they'll fall to 2.5 games behind the White Sox.

Here are the A.L. Central standings heading into Thursday's action:

  1. Chicago White Sox, 68-55
  2. Detroit Tigers, 66-57
  3. Kansas City Royals, 55-68
  4. Cleveland Indians, 54-70
  5. Minnesota Twins, 51-72

The Tigers are also one game back of the Oakland Athletics for the A.L.'s second wild card spot.
