White Sox Vs. Tigers Final Score: Detroit Takes Game 1 Of Series

The Chicago White Sox scored two runs off of Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander on Friday night, and while that's better than a lot of teams muster, it wasn't enough to get the win. The Tigers defeated the White Sox 4-2 in the first game of their crucial inter-division weekend series.

The White Sox took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when center fielder Alejandro De Aza hit a two-run homer to right field. The Tigers, though, would come back in the bottom of the inning to put three runs on the board off of Chicago starter Jake Peavy. Those runs came on a single from Miguel Cabrera, a single from Prince Fielder and a double from Delmon Young.

The Tigers added their insurance fourth run in the bottom of the seventh on an Austin Jackson single. Verlander would go for eight innings before giving way to closer Jose Valverde, who wrapped up the game without allowing a hit.

The two teams will be back on the field on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. CT.
