The Chicago White Sox have optioned relief pitcher Jhan Marinez to Triple-A Charlotte in order to open up a spot on the 25-man roster for Pedro Hernandez, according to Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago. Hernandez is starting on Wednesday as the White Sox face the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Marinez, 23, appeared in just one game for the White Sox, walking three batters over 1.2 shutout innings against the Kansas City Royals on July 13. Acquired from Miami during the offseason as part of the deal that sent manager Ozzie Guillen to South Beach, he has a 3.14 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 43 innings for Charlotte this year.
