White Sox Vs. Yankees Preview: Gavin Floyd, Philip Hughes Face Off In Bronx

The Chicago White Sox's hope of sweeping the New York Yankees over four games at Yankee Stadium were squashed on Saturday after Hiroki Kuroda shut them out 4-0. Being held in the balance on Sunday is either a series victory or a split, the latter of which would register as a slight disappointment after Chicago took the first two games of the series.

Leading the way for the White Sox on Sunday will be Gavin Floyd, who hasn't given up an earned run in his last 13.1 innings across two starts. The caveat: those two starts came against the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins, just about the two worst teams in baseball. The Yankees at home, conversely, may be the toughest match up for any pitcher in the majors.

Opposing him will be Phil Hughes, who like Floyd has a habit of turning potential into an ERA that hovers around five. That said, Hughes was fantastic in June, posting a 2.67 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in five games.

Game time/date: Sunday, July 1, 1:05 p.m. CT

Location: Yankee Stadium, New York, N.Y.

TV: TBS
