The Chicago White Sox selected outfielder Courtney Hawkins out of Carroll High School in Texas with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft on Monday night. The selection seems to be earning high grades from experts. While it'll likely take years to figure out Hawkins' big league potential, at least Sox fans earned a bit of an immediate pay-off. Turns out, Hawks is a ready-made meme.
After the Sox called Hawkins name, the outfielder did a backflip on live TV. We have video, after the jump...
It's the not first time Hawkins has flipped. Here's another video of him doing it in high school:
You have to admit it's pretty impressive for a kid that size -- 6-3, 220 lbs. -- to pull a flip so effortlessly.
Before we get too excited, remember Chicago sports has a bit of a history when it comes to draft picks turning into viral sensations. It's doesn't always work out that well. What do you think Jarron Gilbert is doing right now?
