White Sox Triple-A Team Closer To New Stadium

The Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the White Sox, moved one step closer to a new stadium on Monday.

According to the Associated Press, the Charlotte City Council voted 7-4 in favor of giving the Knights $8 million for the stadium. Of that money, $7.25 million of it will come from hotel and motel tex revenue and the rest coming from a booster group.

Mecklenburg County is contributing $8 million toward the project and will lease the land for $1. The stadium is expected to cost $54 million.

The Knights have been affiliated with the White Sox since 1999. Thier current ballpark, Knights Stadium, has hosted the team since 1990.
